Forget the performance of Havel´s Audience by Josef Abrham and Pavel Landovský! Now you can witness Mark Musaand Sunny Adahson in the main roles. They are Nigerian actors from one of the most prestigious theatres in their country – the Jos Repertory Theatre. Even though they are performing a play which was written in 1975 in a completely different context when the author, just like his hero Vaněk, was forced to roll barrels in the Trutnov brewery, their convincing delivery and understanding of the absurd mechanisms of totalitarianism are proof not only of the universality of Havel´s ideas but also the degree to which the topics of freedom, truth and love resonate in Nigerian society. The acting performances are certainly deserving of attention, as is the fact that Sunny Adahson, alias Sládek, drinks more beers during a performance than the legendary Pavel Landovský. It is clear that no one will be sad after this performance, and the maybe “even Bohdalka will turn up”. Nigerian theatres like Czech theatre works and literature. In the past they have staged, apart from Havel´s Audience, also Cimrman´s Conquest of the North Pole and Erben´s The Bouquet.
