“That which is Below corresponds to that which is Above, and that which is Above corresponds to that which is Below, to accomplish the miracles of the One Thing.”

     The Emerald Tablet

Turning metals into gold? More than that. Looking for immortality? Still more. The philosopher’s stone? A lot more! Alchemy is much more than a few tricks and a blah-blah Kabbalah… Surely, there is always a wily cheater somewhere who spoils other alchemists’ reputation. Yet the true alchemists are scientists as well as artists, philosophers as well as mystics, and first of all, they are perfectionists who long for perfection. The world as we know it isn’t but a shadow of what it used to be long time ago. And the world that is to come tomorrow isn’t but a faint mirroring of what we have today. It was the alchemists who made a Discovery, revealing a mystery that should have never been revealed. But how could they keep silence when carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders?

The immersive performance for both younger and older theatregoers will let you peep inside five alchemistic laboratories founded by the Grand master of a secret order (and, of course, Holy Roman Emperor!) Rudolph II of Habsburg. And—if omens are favourable—this world may be given another chance.

The play Alchemists, which marks the climax of the joint venture between the ensemble Geisslers Hofcomoedianten and Radio Junior, is part of the international project We Can Change the World within the framework of the EU Creative Europe programme.

A co-production of Geisslers Hofcomoedianten with the Theatre World Brno Festival.
