The company of Akram Khan, the world-famous British dancer and choreographer of Bangladeshi origin, is returning to the Czech Republic after more than ten years. This year it will present its dance-theatre production Jungle Book Reimagined intended not only for the wide public, but also for families with children aged over 10 years. In Akram Khan’s new production is based on the original story of Rudyard Kipling’s much-loved classic. Akram regards the story of Mowgli from another perspective and with a sense of urgency—through the eyes of today’s children, those ones who will inherit our world and become future narrators. Akram and his team reinvent Mowgli‘s journey through the eyes of a climate refugee caught in a world devastated by the impact of climatic changes. They retell the story of a child who shows us that we need to learn again to listen. Not to our own voices but to the voices of the natural world, those that the modern civilisation tries to silence. Speaking to all generations, Jungle Book Reimagined is a reminder of the need to create a new world.
