Beads Around the Neck
Beads are something that we voluntarily put on ourselves. Together with all their beauty and their weight. Beads around one’s neck as a way of self-expression of the defunt actress and poetess Marcela Mikulášková, who was born in Brno. Her sober lyrics presents – with high precision – the dynamics and extinct relationship between a person and God, between a child and a parent in the broadest sense. Exploring the search for one’s place in the world, hovering, striving to find one’s anchor in life, the play ends with the feeling of unattainability. A feeling of today’s women who enjoy more equal and fairer social conditions, yet their position remains fragile and often depends on subjective aspects, such as their starting social and family circumstances.
