My Struggle: A Man in Love
Dramaturgical introduction 30 min before the performance in the foyer
A written reality show, an autobiographical confession, and a literary event of the 21st century — all of this can be said about the six-part novel series My Struggle by Karl Ove Knausgård, a Norwegian writer living in Sweden. The theme of this epic work is life itself, everyday activities and exceptional moments. My Struggle can be seen not only as the story of a specific writer, but above all as a testimony about us, our feelings and thoughts, which we often do not even admit to ourselves. The core of our dramatization is the novel with the subtitle A Man in Love, in which he describes his relationship with his wife Linda: “We were telling each other everything, just like those in love usually do, and although all that there was something unbearable in all that hapiness, and we both knew that it couldn’t last forever, we were terrified by the idea that it could happen. However, we carried on living as if we didn’t know.”
